Lichtenberg has a large Asian community, so it’s sometimes called Berlin’s Chinatown. It adds a special flavour to the district. The Asian atmosphere can be felt especially bright in The Dong Xuan Center. Its large halls contain Vietnamese product markets, Asian restaurants, and clothing shops.

Moreover, Lichtenberg is a neighbourhood where East Germany’s secret police (Stasi) had its headquarters. Now there is a Stasi Museum where the visitors can see some spy equipment and the archives. The tourists can also visit Hohenschönhausen Memorial, a former prison that is open for tours now.

The other boroughs located near Lichtenberg are Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Pankow and Marzahn-Hellersdorf.
